Latest Developments and Future Features of Elixir Language
José Valim discussed the current status of the Elixir language during Code BEAM Europe 2023. He highlighted Elixir 1.15 improvements that were made possible thanks to updates from Erlang/OTP 26, especially in terms of performance enhancements like code path caching and pruning. These updates have proven to significantly reduce compilation times for large Elixir applications. Looking forward to Elixir 1.16, Valim introduced new features such as improved compiler diagnostics and revamped documentation across various aspects of Elixir, including guides, anti-pattern documentation, sheets, and diagrams. The talk also covered the ongoing research and development efforts to incorporate a type system into Elixir, an effort led by Jeppe Engelbrecht Christensen and other contributors. However, it's still unsure if Elixir will ultimately integrate this type system, but the research is progressing well.
