Switching from React to LiveView for Performance Gains
In this talk, Tim Gremore narrates the journey from encountering performance challenges in a React SPA to discovering and implementing LiveView as a solution. Birdseye, designed to aggregate personal tasks from various management tools, faced difficulties managing 500 tasks simultaneously, with severe slowdowns and unresponsiveness. The team aimed to support up to 2,000 tasks, but efforts to optimize React's performance fell short. After experimentation, they observed that LiveView significantly improved performance and offered a better developer experience. With LiveView, they met their objectives, saw testing advantages, and felt better prepared for future UI/UX development. The experience suggests that LiveView can reduce complexity, streamline the development process, enhance productivity, and simplify testing, thereby making a strong case for its adoption over traditional front-end frameworks in certain scenarios.
