Elixir and Erlang Community Contributions and Diversity
Adolfo Neto interviews Laura Castro, a professor from Spain who plays a significant role in both the BEAM community and the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation, as well as leading the collaborative project Cátedra CICAS. Laura talks about her introduction to Erlang and Elixir, how she integrates these languages into her courses at the university, and her methods of leveraging their capabilities to teach large system architecture and property-based testing. She also shares her experience writing a paper with a member of the community, Fernando (Brujo) Benavides Rodríguez, and her perspective on the importance of gender diversity in the field of computing. Furthermore, as a co-chair of the Erlang Ecosystem Foundation's education working group, she discusses the efforts to encourage more women to enter computing fields and the need for society-wide change to address gender imbalances.
